Week of April 22
We were able to go outside both days this week! We discussed peer pressure and how to stand up for yourself. The girls came up with places and situations on where they encounter peer pressure and we talked about how to respond to that pressure. Ask you daughter about steps she can use to overcome peer pressure. We told them in the end, parents are a nice fall back :). Sometimes it does not always work when we stand up for ourself and we discussed other ways to do so. Our run time is getting longer so our talk time is getting shorter. There are a number of girls running with Coach Burks and Coach Manzo this Saturday in the LOEF 5K! More information to come home this week. There are only six practices left until the day of our big race! Over 2100 people are registered. It is going to be crazy. We will have a meeting and ending point. As the race day gets closer we will communicate more of a plan. Check out our new pictures on the picture tab.

Week of April 29
We are really hitting some distance this week! We are running more since we have only two weeks left. We discussed gossiping and rumors. We played the telephone game (that brings back memories) and what a different statement came out at the end :). We discussed how when you say something you cannot take it back. Also how gossip and rumors hurt people on the inside. We discussed many examples and ways to respond when we hear a rumor. Bullying was also another topic. We did not get much discussion with this as the girls stated, "We know what bullying is and it does not really happen here." With that said, we did touch on it a bit, but it was so nice we wanted to get out to run.
Hats off to Olivia, Alana, McKenna, Madison, Erin, Audrey, Joslynn, and Sammy for a great 5K race on Saturday. Many people were commenting on our shirts and talked about what great runners we had in our group. They were very impressed with our GOTR girls that were there. You could see the true hearts of these young ladies as they ran with Mrs. Lucia on the last leg of her 10K. It brought tears to my eyes seeing how positive and encouraging they were!
Only four more practices left . . . . More information will come home next week about the race details (times, parking, etc). It is at Oakland University and has over 2100 people registered (can you say chaos?).
Week of May 6, 2013
The fifth grade membes had a lot of running this week. The team is ready to race! This week our conversation was light, but important. We discussed what qualities we look for in a person to be a friend. The girls expressed some great qualities and I can see why they are such quality young women! We also discussed race questions and expectations of the race. We will let you know the time and location that we would like the runners to meet. A race packet was sent home with each girl. It contained a shirt for them and anyone that signed up to run with them. There was also a packet of information. If you have any questions please let us know. More specific information will be given out on Monday. We will have practice on Monday, May 20, 2013. This will be a celebratory practice and we will have pizza and awards. The girls should wear their Webber GOTR shirts for the race and the pink GOTR shirt that they recieved yesterday to school on Monday, May 20.
This last week will be a tapering off week, just like all of us racers do before our big day. We will run two miles on Monday and one on Thursday. Fire up for race day!
